Comprising a panel of a pediatric rheumatology/pediatric nurse practitioner in academic practice and an adult rheumatologist/physician associate in private practice, this session will discuss experiences with onboarding advanced practice providers (APPs) in practice, sharing initial establishment and refinement of the positions over time. Resources available to rheumatologists thinking about adding an APP to their practice will be shared. This is an important session regarding workforce shortages, and there will be a review of all the new educational and training resources, courses, and curriculum guidelines available through the ARP on the ACR website.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the role and scope of advanced practice providers (APPs) in a rheumatology practice
Compare barriers to incorporating an APP into adult and pediatrics practices and academic vs. private rheumatology practices
Contrast academic and private practices' ability to utilize APPs in regard to the business of rheumatology
Identify how to assist APPs to work at the full scope of their practice
