Dr. Baughman is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. His major research interests include: the diagnosis and treatment of sarcoidosis. Along with his long-time collaborator Dr. Elyse Lower, he has developed several novel treatments for sarcoidosis, including methotrexate, thalidomide, leflunomide, and infliximab. For sarcoidosis pulmonary hypertension he has completed placebo controlled randomized trials of Bosentan and Riociguat. He has established international registries for advanced sarcoidosis and sarcoidosis associated pulmonary hypertension. Current studies include treatments for sarcoidosis including pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension. He is editor of Sarcoidosis, Vasculitis, and Diffuse Lung Disease and Current Opinion of Pulmonary Disease. He is on the editorial board of multiple subspecialty journals, and his publications include over 300 original papers and over 100 review articles and/or book chapters. He has edited several books on sarcoidosis, pulmonary hypertension, and interstitial lung disease. He recently cochaired task force reports on diagnosis and treatment of sarcoidosis and sarcoidosis associated pulmonary hypertension.
