David Karp, MD, PhD is Professor and Chief of the Rheumatic Diseases Division at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, where he holds the Harold C. Simmons Chair in Arthritis Research and the Fredye Factor Chair in Rheumatoid Arthritis Research. His research interests include the role of genetics and the environment in the causes of autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
Dr. Karp’s recent investigation has focused on markers that predict development of disease in people at risk for lupus. Dr. Karp has received support for his research from the National Institutes of Health, the Arthritis Foundation, and industry. He is a past-president of the American College of Rheumatology and past president of the Rheumatology Research Foundation.
