Dr. Shivani Garg is a faculty member in the Division of Rheumatology within the Department of Medicine, University of Wisconsin (UW), School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison. Dr. Garg is the Medical Director of UW’s Lupus Clinic and a multidisciplinary Lupus Nephritis Clinic at UW Health. In these state-of-the-art clinics, Dr. Garg has developed novel methods to personalize care based on individual patient’s risk factors, including social factors, to advance health of all patients with lupus and lupus nephritis, and mitigate outcome disparities. Dr. Garg’s research focuses to better understand the pathophysiology of lupus to improve outcomes and address existing disparities in lupus. Her research lab is developing interventions to support shared decision-making during visits to ensure optimal use of pivotal therapies and preventive strategies. She is also working to identify early markers that are associated with accelerated risk of cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease in lupus. In her efforts to advance precision in medicine and lupus care, she is leading studies that will establish the role of therapeutic drug level monitoring and target-site pharmacokinetics, and will lay the foundation for new drug discovery. Dr. Garg has been recognized with multiple academic and excellence awards for her promising work in lupus and lupus nephritis.
