Dr. Appleton was recruited to the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Western Ontario in 2016. In addition to rheumatology practice, he conducts clinical trials, cohort studies, and the rheumatology MSK ultrasound consult service. He is also the director of the Synovial Translational Biology Laboratory at Western, clinical advisor to the Western Bone and Joint Institute, a past director of the Ontario Rheumatology Association, and incumbent Scientific Committee chair for the Canadian Rheumatology Association. He has an interest in real-world evidence to improve outcomes for patients with rheumatic diseases. As such, he chairs the ORA Informatics Committee and is leading the Ontario Rheumatic Diseases Evaluation Registry (ORDER) project.
