Dr. Sam Dowling completed his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University and his MD-PhD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research background and doctoral thesis was in T cell biology and immune tolerance under the late Dr. Fernando Macian. During his pediatric residency and now pediatric rheumatology fellowship at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern University, his research interests have pivoted toward monocyte and macrophage immunobiology. His current projects, under the mentorship of Drs. Harris Perlman and Deirdre De Ranieri, focus on the role of synovial monocytes and macrophages in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
