Frederick B. Vivino, MD, MS, MACR is former Director of the Penn Sjogren’s Syndrome Center, past Chief of Rheumatology at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. He directed one of the country’s largest Sjogren’s centers for over 25 years and has abundant clinical and research experience with this group. He was a co-investigator in the SICCA (Sjogren’s International Collaborative Clinical Alliance) tissue registry, and other research interests include novel diagnostics/ therapeutics as well as pediatric SjD. He is former chair and current member of the Sjogren’s Foundation (SF) Medical and Scientific Advisory Board, founding editor of the Sjogren’s Quarterly, and associate editor of The Sjogren’s Book (4th edition, 2012). He organized and oversaw the first phase of the SF's national initiative to develop clinical practice guidelines for the oral, ocular, and rheumatologic manifestations of the disease, and is currently helping to develop guidelines for CNS involvement. Dr Vivino served as medical editor and author for Sjogren’s Syndrome: A Clinical Handbook, a medical text published in 2020 as part of the “Hot Topics” series from Elsevier, Inc. He is a textbook author on SjD for UpToDate, recently co-authored 3 chapters for the 5th edition of The Sjogren’s Book (2022) and a chapter in A Clinician’s Pearls and Myths in Rheumatology (2nd ed.). Most recently, he has done consulting work.
