Philip J Hashkes, MD, MSc, RhMSUS is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Hebrew University and Head of the Pediatric Rheumatology Unit, Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel. Dr. Hashkes graduated (1989) from the Hebrew University Medical School. His pediatric residency was performed (1989-1994) at Hadassah Mount Scopus and pediatric rheumatology fellowship (1994-1997) at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where he earned a MSc in epidemiology from the University of Cincinnati. He headed pediatric rheumatology at the Cleveland Clinic between 2003-9 and received RhMSUS certification in 2015. In 2024, he completed the certificate graduate level program studying the history of medicine at Johns Hopkins University. His clinical expertise includes autoinflammatory diseases and pediatric vasculitis. He has published 165 research, review and editorial publications, 19 chapters in leading textbooks and obtaining several competitive grants, including studies of mortality outcomes in pediatric rheumatology and the use of IL-1 inhibition in colchicine-resistant familial Mediterranean fever. He was the primary editor for the “Textbook of Autoinflammation”. He is the current chair of the Israeli Society of Pediatric Rheumatology and represents rheumatology on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pediatrics. He was awarded the Master of the ACR designation at the 2025 annual meeting.
