Dr. McMahan is and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and co-director of the Scleroderma Center. She completed her medical school and residency training at the University of Texas, and her fellowship training in rheumatology at Johns Hopkins University. During her rheumatology fellowship, she also earned her Master in Health Sciences degree in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Upon completing her fellowship, Dr. McMahan joined the Johns Hopkins Scleroderma Center as full-time faculty for 11 years focusing translational research in the gastrointestinal complications of scleroderma and caring for patients with scleroderma. She has continued this work at UT Houston since July 2023. Dr. McMahan also is one of the co-leaders of the Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium Gastrointestinal Working group and the World Scleroderma Foundation GI ad hoc committee. She served on the Board of Directors for the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) from 2013-2017, and currently serves as a co-chair of the ACR Committee on Finance.
