Lupus and Allied Diseases Association, Inc.
Pleasanton, California, United States
Following her lupus diagnosis 13 years ago at the age of 14, Whitney got involved in advocacy as both a patient advocate and the social media manager. Whitney went on to also be diagnosed with CNS lupus and a rare disease called autoimmune autonomic ganglionopathy. Since then, she has become very involved in the lupus and rare disease communities by advocating with non-profits such as the Lupus and Allied Diseases Association and the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases. She has met with Congressmen and Senators to help advocate for awareness and for the patient voice to be reflected in legislature. She has spoken at the Rare Disease California Caucus, many medical conferences, and as the Face of Lupus at a yearly fundraising gala. After recognizing the lack of support for people with lupus and other chronic illnesses, she started and leads a support group for people with chronic illnesses.
Whitney studied Psychology and Disability Studies at UC Berkeley, and she is currently a graduate student at Grand Canyon University, studying Industrial Organizational Psychology. She hopes to find solutions in the workplace to aid both the organization and people with disabilities. Her first hand experience in the medical field as a patient with lupus and other chronic illnesses are what instilled this passion.
