Dr. Chapa, originally from Coahuila, Mexico, earned his MD from Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and completed an MSc and PhD in Immunology with summa cum laude distinction. He trained at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and the University of Hamburg, and received the European Bone and Joint Infection Society Best Paper Award in 2020. His research centers on the role of neutrophils and mitochondria in autoimmune diseases, and in 2025 he was selected for the NASA STAR program.
