Isabel Castrejón, MD, PhD, is a Consultant Rheumatologist and Co-Director of the Center for Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases (CEIMI) at Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (HGUGM) in Madrid, Spain. She is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Dr. Castrejón leads the Early Arthritis Program at HGUGM, where she established a successful collaboration with primary care providers to support early referral of patients with inflammatory arthritis, as part of the REUCARE initiative (https://www.reucare.com/inicio
). Since 2020, she has served as Principal Investigator of BIOBADASER, the Spanish Registry of Biologic Therapies in Rheumatic Diseases (https://www.ser.es/biobadaser/
), and represents Spain in the Rheumatology Section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
She completed her rheumatology fellowship at La Princesa University Hospital (2007) and earned her PhD from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2014). She spent ten years in the U.S. working at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and Rush University Medical Center before returning to Madrid in 2019.
Her research focuses on clinical epidemiology, early arthritis, outcome measures (including patient-reported outcomes), and real-world data from biologic therapy registries in rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis. Dr. Castrejón has led multiple funded research projects and authored over 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
