Jose C. Crispin obtained an M.D. from the National University of Mexico (UNAM). He completed an Internal Medicine residency and Rheumatology fellowship at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, in Mexico City. He obtained a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and, in 2007, moved to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston as a postdoctoral research fellow. In 2012 he became Assistant Professor of Medicine in Harvard Medical School. In 2015 he returned to Mexico to start a lab focused on T cell biology in the context of autoimmunity and cancer. His work has received funding from CONACYT, NIH, and the Alliance for Lupus Research. He has published more than 100 papers and 15 book chapters, and his work has accrued more than 8000 citations.
