PD Dr. med. Wolfgang Merkt, MD, is a specialist in rheumatology and immunology. To carry out his translational research projects, Doctor Merkt received the Advanced Clinician Scientist Fellowship of the German Society of Internal Medicine in 2023. His research focusses on the role of natural killer cells in autoimmune and fibrotic diseases and, in particular, on new therapeutic principles that exploit the intrinsic cytotoxicity of immune cells for fibrosis therapy. Current ongoing studies focus on the role of soluble immune complexes, CD19.CAR-T cells and the exploitation of natural cell cytotoxicity for fibrosis therapy.
