Dr. Rubin received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his rheumatology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University and a clinical immunology fellowship at Hahnemann University. Later, his MPH degree was obtained from University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Dr. Rubin then served as Chief of Rheumatology, and Professor of Medicine (with tenure) at University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas for over 20 years, educating thousands of students in rheumatology and immunology. He also started the rheumatology fellowship at UNTHSC. Dr. Rubin moved to Detroit, Michigan in 2010 to serve as Chief of Rheumatology at Henry Ford Hospital and Clinical Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. At Henry Ford Hospital he restarted the rheumatology fellowship and combined it with Wayne State University to educate four fellows annually. His clinical and research interests focused on SLE, RA, and vasculitis. In 2018, Dr. Rubin left clinical practice to join GlaxoSmithKline working in medical affairs focused on the SLE patient journey. In 2024, he moved to Progentec Diagnostics as chief medical officer guiding their laboratory and digital health initiatives for SLE patients.
