Alain Lescoat is associate professor of Internal Medicine & Clinical Immunology and the PI of the Scleroderma (= systemic sclerosis: SSc) cohort of Rennes University hospital (France, Brittany) in the department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Immunology directed by Pr Patrick Jégo. Our research especially focuses on outcomes in SSc with a specific interest in ultrasound outcome measures. Alain Lescoat is also a PhD researcher in the Rennes Research Institute for Environmental and Occupational Health (IRSET), INSERM unit 1085. Our unit (U1085) especially studies the links between environmental exposures such as silica exposures and the onset of scleroderma with a specific focus on macrophages involvement in the pathogenesis of this systemic disorder. Our department of internal medicine is a tertiary referral center for patients with scleroderma and related conditions. The Scleroderma cohort of Rennes University hospital includes more than 450 patients with scleroderma who routinely benefit from at least two annual medical examinations. For more than two decades, our department has been involved in national and international trials on scleroderma. Our department is also a EUSTAR center. Alain Lescoat is the Co-PI of the C.R.I.S.T.A.L project (Combined Response Index for Scleroderma Trials Assessing Limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis (lcSSc)) that aims to create a composite index for lcSSc.
