Medical learners can encounter challenges during any phase of their training: in medical school, residency, or fellowship. Rheumatology educators importantly support struggling learners, identifying their deficiencies, and developing plans to improve their skills.
Remediation is complicated, and the process challenges even the most skilled educators. In this interactive session, rheumatology educators will learn Jeanette Guerrasio’s diagnostic framework to systematically approach remediation which includes investigating causes, categorizing domains of deficiency, and designing interventions that strengthen skills. Attendees will apply this framework to a series of case studies representing remediation at various stages along the rheumatology learning continuum and will receive a list of resources that can be used when planning remediation strategies. The session will conclude with a Q&A, where attendees can ask questions of other audience members, as well as the presenters who have experience supporting struggling learners across the learning continuum.
