Osteoarthritis (OA) affects the entire joint, causing damage to multiple cell types and resulting in pain. At present, there are no methods that effectively address both joint degeneration and pain reduction simultaneously. The drivers of OA are largely unknown. This session will highlight mostly recent groundbreaking findings in OA pathogenesis and potential promising therapeutic targets. Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee will discuss how a Grem1-lineage chondrogenic progenitor causes OA. Dr. Matt Greenblatt will discuss how skeletal stem cells contribute to bone and cartilage regeneration.
