Avanika Mahajan received her bachelor’s degree with distinction in biotechnology. She graduated from North Carolina State University with a Ph.D. in Cell Biology, with research focus on understanding the role of nutritional deficiencies on mesenchymal stem cell differentiation and bone health. She later pursued immunology research at University of New Mexico focusing on mast cell signaling mechanisms and strategies for development of a vaccine for shellfish allergy. She obtained her medical degree from University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency at Mayo Clinic Arizona. She is currently a fellow in Rheumatology at Mayo Clinic arizona with career goals of practicing medicine and engaging in clinical research in an academic setting.
