Cellular stress plays a significant role in the development and progression of autoimmune diseases. This includes endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and oxidative stress, which alter cellular responses. Dr. Franck Barrat discusses how dysfunctional ER stress leads to greater interferon by plasmacytoid dendritic cells in scleroderma and lupus, and Dr. Mehdi Rashighi discusses how oxidative stress contributes to and is being targeted in the autoimmune skin disease.
